Hello All!
Here is a copy of the e-mail I sent to Jeff:
Jeff:
Unfortunately, the plans that I received did not contain the information that you have requested. I built a different style roost for my birds using rustic furniture techniques. However, there is help available to solve this problem. At the left side of the plan there is a to-scale “construction detail” drawing showing how everything fits together and the size and length of materials used. By looking at the large drawing and referring to the detail you can easily come up with a material list. Here’s an example:
Look at the overall drawing. You can count 8 2x4 rafters and 2 2x6 rafters. Look at the detail. You’ll see where the 2 x 6’s go and that all rafters are 14’ long.
Look at the skids in the big drawing. There are 2. Refer to the detail and you’ll see they are 4 x 4’s that are 22’ feet long.
Observe to Roost supports in the big drawing. You can see that there are 3 2x8’s 10’ long
Roosts themselves are 2x4’s that are 20’ long and that they are spaced 18” apart.
You get the idea. If you can not do this, take the plan to a lumber yard and they will figure it for you. The plan shows a metal roof but you can substitute plywood or particle board if you want.
I’m sorry for this slip up. Next time we do a revision I’ll make a note to add the missing call-outs. By the way, if you prefer to build the type of roosts pictured on the DVD, just pause the player and make a quick sketch of the roost assembly. You can make any of these roosts larger or smaller to fit you needs.
