Pierce County Extension Director and Agriculture Specialist, Washington State University Extension. Position #42368

Washington State University (WSU) Extension Pierce County Extension Director and Agriculture Specialist. This is a twelve-month, non-tenure, promotion track faculty position at the rank of E-2 or E-3 (analogous to assistant or associate clinical professor), and is located in Tacoma, Washington. This position is responsible for leading WSU Extension agriculture education and applied research programs in the local area, as well as providing technical support to local Extension program volunteers. This position also serves as the lead administrator for WSU county operations in Pierce County, and is responsible for overall management of the Pierce County Extension Office. Required: Earned Master's degree in horticulture, agriculture, agricultural sustainability, soils, agricultural economics, or related field. Desired Ph.D. degree in an academic area listed above or related field; Demonstrated experience in the development and writing of extension publications and educational curriculum, and the delivery of educational programs using a variety of methodologies, including distance education and educational events; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and listening skills in relating to a variety of audiences, including elected officials, staff, volunteers,  media, agency representatives, and youth; Demonstrated ability to lead as well as to participate in interdisciplinary and multi-agency teams; Demonstrated ability to work with farmers, agribusiness, government agency representatives, elected officials, farm laborers, environmentalists, Extension colleagues, consumers, and volunteers; Demonstrated ability in grant writing and fundraising; Proficiency in computer technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, electronic slide presentations, web page design, and email; Demonstrated experience in the understanding of agricultural marketing systems, trends and food systems; Demonstrated experience in applied research.
