Central VT farm needs manager, partner, tenant, etc.

Thought this might be of interest to someone on the list...

>From Palmer Legare. Please reply directly to him;

For nearly 50 years, my father has managed Legare's farm in Calais, Vermont, just north of Montpelier. After a sudden illness he is unable to run the farm this year. Last year over 30 acres were cultivated, and there are another 60+ acres of tillable land. In addition there are 12 greenhouses, a popular farm stand on the property and another in Berlin, several tractors, five acres of strawberries to be harvested this year, and a five bedroom farm house that is currently empty.

My family is exploring options for what to do with the farm this year and would like to make a decision quickly. We are interested in exploring possible partnerships. Some members of the family are interested in helping run the farm but are unable to do so alone. We are also open to the idea of leasing the land and/or business. We prefer not to sell the farm this year but expect to consider that option more next year.

We have explored going organic, are very interested in being socially and ecologically responsible, and would consider various ways of working with the community (such as partnerships with the food bank, local schools, and connections with international farming programs, etc.). The farm has been run primarily conventionally and already has much of the infrastructure in place for non-organic production this year, but this can be discussed.
For more information please contact Palmer Legare at 802-454-1912
