Rod Williams

A name well known to the eastern states of Australia, 1980-1988 as an accomplished singer/song writer recording artist. Born and raised in Queensland, Rod’s music career began with a song written and recorded by him, called “THE SHOE” the story of Australian Champion jockey, Mel Schumacher, which was released on RCA records. The following year Rod recorded his first album entitled “My Style of Country” released on Sundown Records, and received the Queensland Country Music Album of the Year Award.

1982 saw the release of his second album, also winning the Queensland Country Music Award of “Album Of The Year” entitled “Mixed Emotions” which included the single “Brand New Love” written for him by Australian songwriter Alan Caswell, which received extensive radio air play. The second single entitled “Stockman’s Hall Of Fame” was used extensively to promote the Stockman’s Hall Of Fame project in Longreach.   In 1983 Rod wrote and recorded “The Fires of Ash Wednesday” with members of the Queensland symphony orchestra, with all proceeds going to the Ash Wednesday appeal.

1984 saw him write and record a song re the Queensland State of Origin team entitled “The Mighty Maroons”. The same year saw him write and record “The Punters Lament” a tongue and cheek look at the famous Fine Cotton ring in affair.

He was also commissioned to write and record as part of Expo 88 a song depicting life on the land, entitled “The Bushman From Down Under” promoting the great Australian outback.

Rod has been blessed with a strong rich voice which has allowed him to  perform in some of the best venues throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, including RSL’s, Hotel’s, Festival’s and Club’s, etc.

Affectionately dubbed “Australia’s Country Music Gentleman” by the music press, because of his attire and presentation, is a tag Rod wears with pride. After more than 20 years off the music scene Rod is making a comeback and is still going strong today writing and recording many fabulous songs and singing with the same rich velvet smooth voice he is known for. Two more albums, both recorded in 2009 are "Reminiscing", a collection of some of Rods favorites and "Sings Hank". This album has some of the best Hank Williams numbers covered beautifully by Rod in his own smooth style and all albums are available on his new Website.  Spend some time, listen to the music samples, check out the collection of pictures and enjoy this new website.

KWBC.FM is currently featuring two of Rod's songs in both our everyday play list and our Western Play List Old Time Drover & A Fencer from the Outback.
