We have assorted anti-spam, anti-commenters, anti-dictionary attack protections in place.
We try to make your stay here as pleasant and as safe as possible.
These protections are for the best since we have not yet been overcome by nasties.

Here are the constraints to our registration process.

  1. You MUST be human.
  2. You MUST set a password using at least 8 characers, have at least one uppercase and at least one lowercase.
And your password may NOT contain any part of your username or your email address.
  3. You MUST accept our policy upon registration.
  4. You MUST input the captcha image correctly.
  5. You MUST answer these 2 questions correctly:
Our question: Are you a robot? Your answer is: no
Our question: What is the sum of one and one?  Your answer is: 2
  6. Once we have received your registration request we will manually approve you.
Usually this process is done within 24 hours, but sometimes it's much faster since we're often online.

Talk: About Registering to use Back40Forums

New registration to help reduce spam

Despite our diligent efforts to keep the Forums clean of spam, all forums continue to have problems with inappropriate posts and excessive commercial offers. More than we could keep up with.

So, we decided to include a quick registration process to, hopefully, weed out some of the pirates who've been hanging around. It will only take a few seconds of your time and should make your experience on the Forums much less frustrating.

Just click on "Register" in the upper right hand corner of the screen to get started.

Many thanks to all the users who continued to alert us to problems as they arose, and to those who have seen the greater value of the positive interactions over the negative thus far.

Happy sharing!

Hello and welcome to OUR forums.  I say "our" because we want this to be be a world class place for folks to ask questions, receive answers and share advice.  Now, you can lurk all you want by remaining a guest, but to get the most out of the forums you need to register. You only need to add a user name (handle) and a valid e-mail address.  No other personal information is required and your e-mail address will never be shared with anyone!  It's quick and easy but if you need help we have set up a short video help to guide you through the process.  To watch the tutorial video just click here.

After you register you will see new options above and to the right of the topics you read.  As a member you can "start a new topic", "reply" (add your 2 cents worth to the current topic), forward it to a friend, save it to a file on your computer or print it. Also, if you want to keep your eye on a particular subject you can click on "Notify" and you will receive an e-mail when anyone adds to the topic.  This is particularly valuable if you have asked a question!

As I said, please join and freely share.  We are all going through tough economic times right now and could use a few good buddies to share with.  And, if you have a pet subject that is not listed contact an administrator and we will set up a board for you to moderate.

Jump on in!  The water's fine.  And, please register and participate in our posts. Thanks for visiting Back 40 forums.
