We've been raising pastured chickens since 1991 when I read an article in New Farm magazine about Salatin's operation - which was in its infancey at that time - before the books, only a pamphlet was available. In 2004, we finally got a USDA processor in our region, which allowed us to market the birds (Kentucky allows zero on farm processing for sales to consumers). We are small, only about 900 a year, bur we really enjoy the birds and teh fertility they bring to our pastures. We use a Plamondon style range shelter (with our own improvements) for our layers and broilers, and, now, turkeys.
