Direct Farm Marketing: You are not competing with the supermarket
« Reply #1 on: February 20, 2012, 07:12:11 AM »
Hey Y'all: you are not competing with the supermarket. What you offer is a
value added product that represents the care and diligence of a small scale
farmer producing a higher quality chicken raised in quality conditions and
processed in a humane manner. People are quite willing to pay extra for
this. I have more demand for my chickens at $3.75 a pound than I can keep
up with. Other producers in my area get over 4 dollars a pound and also do
not suffer from soft sales. Supermarket chickens represent the worst that
 industrial farming has to show.
Small sustainable farms play an important role. Don't get frustrated.
